Anne of Green Gables is a timeless and beautiful classic in which I never get bored of. Anne is a lively and passionate girl, one of the most imaginative characters I have ever read about. She is also one of the chattiest that I have ever read about, talking for an entire ten minutes without stopping. She is an orphan, but probably one of the most optimistic orphans that I’ve seen and this story begins when she is mistakenly adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert.
Anne is delighted to have a place she can call home, but when she learns that they meant to adopt a boy, the day passes with her being sad for most of it. Thankfully, Marilla decides to keep her when she learns of the alternative. The rest of the story is all about Anne’s life at Green Gables and how she lives with gentle, shy Matthew and sharp, practical Marilla. There are highs, lows, a lot of mistakes and many formed friendships and hatreds.
I love this book a lot as (most) of the characters are very kind, the setting and descriptions are absolutely beautiful and brings everything to life for me and all of Anne’s funny antics always make for an entertaining read (of course I also like it because there is lot of cake, yum). I like all of Anne’s friends too, especially Diana Barry since she is Anne’s best friend. I also like all of Anne’s teachers (apart from Mr Phillips) as they too are kind and passionate about learning. I quite like reading about the past and also enjoy the nature side of it with Green Gables being next to a brook and a lot of flowers.
I would recommend this book to most people since it is extremely well written and wholesome. The age category would probably be 8+ as some younger children might find this hard going. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
